Mount Kilimanjaro is not only Tanzania's highest peak but the tallest free-standing mountain on Earth, rising 5,895 meters above the plains near the Kenyan border. The mountain comprises three volcanic cones — Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira — and climbing it takes you through five climate zones, from rainforest to arctic summit.
Makundi's certified mountain crews lead climbs on all major routes: the popular Marangu 'Coca-Cola' route with its mountain huts, the scenic Lemosho route with its superb acclimatization profile, the challenging Machame 'Whiskey' route, and the quiet northern Rongai route — plus Shira and Umbwe for experienced trekkers.

The gateway towns of Moshi and Arusha are 1–2 hours from the park gates, with Kilimanjaro International Airport in between.
